Vinohrady Theatre

The Vinohrady Theatre of Prague, Czechia which served first as the Theatre of the Czechoslakia Army is a set of repertory dramatic theater and a representative stage of the capital city of Prague, it has about 1,200 seats capacity. Constructed in the years 1905-1907 at the cost of the citizens of the town of Kralovske Vinohrady, it is the largest drama house in Czech Republic. It is situated very close to the Church St Ludmila in Peace Square and was officially opened on November 24, 1907. It has featured so many play since inception and recently, plays like Skola zen, Snatky z rozumu, Pygmalion; a resident stage show which celebrates the history of film.

Periodically, the theatre offers drama performances and also plays host to charity benefits, movie premieres, special events and other televised award shows. Before now, opera and operetta performances were held there. The theatre’s soaring stage, one of the largest in Czech Republic. It has featured some of the top comedies, balls, social events, classical music, and jazz concert, in its numerous halls. Hundreds of popular actors, playwrights, and directors have graced the Vinohrady Theatre with their presence and talent. The current talents heading the theater are main director Tomas Topfer with artistic director Martin Stropnicky. Under their watichful eyes the theatre presents more or less known historical and contemporary pieces with popular actors Viktor Preiss, Vaclav Vydra, Hana Maciuchova and many others.

The Vinohrady theatre is more of a tourist attraction because of the interesting places around it, other than the Church of St Ludmila. The Grebovka Park, National House in Vinohrady, National Museum, Peace Square, Rieger Gardens, Wencelas Square, and Zizkov Television Tower are some of the other places you probably would like to visit.

The theatre is accessible by prague public transport: metro A (green line) – Namesti Miru stop, trams 4, 10, 16, 22 – Namesti Miru stop. Walking distance from Prague Ticket Office shop Via Musica on Old Town Square is about 45 minutes.
