Havlíček Gardens – Grébovka

Havlíček Gardens has been built with the essence of Italian Renaissance style and is one of the most renowned parks in the Vinohrady district. Also famous as Grébovka, this land was bought in an utterly poor condition by Moritz Grobe in 1870. It took him 17 years to develop the dry land into a park that has more than 120 trees and plants from different species. Havlíček Gardens are spread over an area of 11HA and includes a vine yard as well which was discovered and developed by Charles IV during the 14th century. If you are visiting Prague, then you must pay a visit to Havlíček Gardens as it is one of the most exotic sites of nature that this city has to offer.

Tourism Information

If you are visiting the Havlíček Gardens for the first time, here is some useful information that you must know, in order to ensure a smooth experience.

To begin with, there are two transport sources near Havlíček Gardens that you can utilize to reach there:

  • Krymska Tram Stop which is located at Vinohrady direction
  • Otakarova Tram Stop which is located at Nusle direction

Havlíček Gardens opening hours vary according to the seasons. From April to October, the garden is open from 6am till midnight. However, from November till March, the park opens at 6am but closes at 10pm. If there are any changes in the opening and closing hours, the park announces those on their official website.

There are some amazing buildings in the Havlíček Gardens too, which are worth a site. You must visit the following buildings in the garden while you are in the park:

  • Viniční altán (Vineyard Gazebo):

This building was basically used as a music pavilion but now it is more of a garden oriented café. If you wish to enjoy vine here, then you can get some of the best vines from the yard that is right across this café and is worth tasting.

  • Grobe Villa:

Grobe Villa is another great building in the Havlíček Gardens. It was basically a two story home of the founder of the park and the exterior of this residence is eye catchingly beautiful. It has been designed by Antonín Barvitius and the famous designer Josef Schulz has designed the interior of it. However, today, this building is used as an educational center for the lawyers and it is opened for public occasionally so that the tourists can enjoy the pretty exterior and interior of it.

  • Grotta Cave:

Grotta Cave is another beautiful and extremely romantic part of the Havlíček Gardens and if you are going to this park with your partner, then you must visit it. It is an artificial rock and has been designed by Antonín Barvitius. The rock is a romantic element in the park and has different caves and stones stools in it.

Apart from Havlíček Gardens, there is a lot to explore nearby the park too. When you are done sightseeing the famous park and you think you still have some energy left, you can and must visit the Herold Gardens and the Peace Square too. There is a lot more to discover though and once you exit the park, you will see various historical places that surround the Havlíček Gardens and are waiting to be explored.
